Posted in News |People who are willing to do hard things
Tuesday, August 14th, 2007Over the course of the past four years our Church has had a theme which has defined our year. Three years ago our theme was Personal Spiritual Development and the climax of the year was the Seminar presented by Dean Trune.
year before last we concentrated on the testimony of the believer and we enjoyed a seminar by Dr. Michael Curtice on personal evangelism for the local church.
Last year we did a year long message series on God’s story as we reviewed His word through a series of different lenses. We also encouraged the body to be involved in a Bible reading plan.
This year our theme is People Who are willing to do hard things. We would love to have you come and join us as we celebrate God’s word in community.

Have you heard about the latest controversy that has different Christian Churches at each other*s throats. One of the most famous Churches in the world, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, has found itself embroiled in a bitter fight between the six different denominations that control this historical church and landmark. The struggle is the result of backed up toilets.
*The Church of the Holy Sepulcher is located on the traditional site of Jesus* crucifixion in Old Jerusalem. It also houses one of the sites claimed to be the tomb, where Jesus laid for three days. Because of its historical significance several different denominations have shared the use of and responsibility for the structure. As Easter approached this year, three of the groups that control one 10-stall restroom could not agree how to divide responsibility for repairing it, leading to a pervasive stench in the building. Furthermore, the path of the outflow sewage pipe (which needed enlarging) passes under property of a fourth denomination, which has resisted helping unless it is granted control of one of the 10 stalls. *Jesus had a different perspective on how kingdom workers were supposed to behave.

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006I was reminded this week about the wise men from the east that came seeking Jesus. The story is recorded in Matthew Ch. 2. Read the rest of this news item »
“After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod wise men from the east arrived unexpectedly in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”
Apparently these men had traveled some distance searching for this heaven heralded king. As with much of the narrative that God relates to us through His scriptures I wish I had a little more information: How did they know that this star, that they had been following, would bring them to a newborn king? It must have been an impressive cosmological event that led them to travel for weeks to arrive in Jerusalem.
